Malbec Wine Day: The Story Behind the Bottle

To celebrate World Malbec Wine Day, we dived deep into the history of where this splendid wine originates and selected a few of our personal favourites.

It all stems back to a mere 25 years ago, were the name ‘Malbec’ was virtually unknown. The Malbec grape’s home was in the South-West of France, but back then used to make a tough wine, Cahors, called Cot. There was some mention of Malbec over in Bordeaux, but it was still rather restricted, and not commonly known.

In the 1990’s, Argentina producers saw an opportunity to create something they knew people would love. With acres upon acres of Malbec grapes growing freely through the high-altitude fields of Argentina, a new style of wine was born.

A full-bodied wine with mature red and brambly black fruits, complex chocolatey notes and a rich texture soon become an absolute sensation for wine lovers across the world.

Whilst it wasn’t easy choosing a selection of our favourite, here are the Malbec wines that made our taste buds tingle and left us wanting more:
